Paint Pens: More Then You Need To Know

Lets chat for a moment about paint pens and all the joy they bring to life. I get asked many questions about what I products I use and what I recommend. Hands down my favorite go-to is the Sharpie brand Paint Marker, medium point, gold.  And the biggest kicker is WATER-BASED. Let me break that down a second here:

Paint Marker: that’s a bit deceiving that Sharpie calls it a marker. It needs to be shaken and also has the tip that refills with paint. (Most people call these paint pens.)

Medium Point: This just refers to the size of the tip, how much paint it can handle at once and the size of the line upon drawing. I think this is most handy for decorating walls. The line is large enough for easy blending and connecting.

Gold: There is something magical about the Sharpie “Metallic” series (also including silver). The texture is very rich and thick. It has a slight reflective quality and reads gold in a room full of gold accents. However, I mostly use it as a lovely neutral that has a beautiful smooth texture. (Pairs great with wood accents) I have also used their colors black and white and pink. They have their place, but the paint texture is thinner and has a thinner/marker look on a wall.

Water-Based: The majority of paint markers in stores are labeled “Oil-Based” which is very difficult to touch up or paint over. When you’re ready to repaint, to save you layers of primer and extra headache, purchase the water-based formula from the very beginning.
